Rev. Mir Kenniphaas

We are pleased to have the Rev. Marienus (Mir) Kenniphaas as our new minister here at Northminster United Church.  Rev. Mir began his term with us on May 1st 2010.  He comes to us from the Bancroft/Carlow Pastoral Charge where he has servied for the past six years.  Before that Rev. Mir completed an internship at Trinity United Church in Peterborough and also served for six years at the Flinton/Cloyne Pastoral Charge.  Rev. Mir has been active with several Prebyteries and is presently Chair of Oversight with Peterborough Presbytery.

Rev. Mir was born in Amsterdam, Holland and moved with family to Toronto, Ontario as a young boy.  He was raised and schooled in Toronto and has worn many hats over the years.  He worked as a buyer in the Purchasing Department for the Toronto Board of Education.  He has worked in construction and factory work as well as carpentry and logging.  Mir attended Queen's University in Kinston and then graduated from Queen's Theological College.

Rev. Mir has many passions which include music, sports and travelling.  He has volunteered in several capacities in sports such as hockey and baseball as convenor, coach and referee.  He presently plays third base for the Northminster Maroons.  Rev. Mir has had many opportunities for travel and plays the guitar, drums and keyboards.

Rev. Mir has served on several Clergy associations and was Chair of the Ministerial Association in North Addington, Ontario.  Mir also helped implement a vital youth group at the North Addington Education Centre called the "Super Kids Club."

Rev. Mir has served as Chaplain at Algonquin Provincial Park.  He helped organize the first volunteer Fire Department in Plevna, Ontario and acted as treasurer for three years.  Rev. Mir was also a captain of the Mugwamp ferry at Bon Echo Provincial Park.

Rev. Mir is very approachable and brings with him a passion for ministry and music.  Rev. Mir connects well with both yound and old.  He brings with him new ideas and fresh visions, recognizing a need for change in how we do church that is relevant and meaningful to the younger folk in this present age.  We welcome him and embrace the opportunity to begin a new era in our mission and ministry here at Northminster United Church.
