David attended Waterloo Lutheran University, now know as Wilfred Laurier University and graduated with an honours degree in Business Administration.
After graduating, David and his wife Fran, moved to Peterborough where they could be a half an hour away from their cottage instead of three hours. He started is career with McColl Turner, Chartered Accountants where he spent seven years. He then had the opportunity to become the Comptroller of Bowes & Cocks Limited, a large real estate and land development company with its head office in Peterborough. When David retired from Bowes & Cocks he became involved in several non-profit organizations as Treasurer including Northminster United Church.
The Treasurer of Northminster is responsible for maintaining the financial records of the Church, which includes recording all monies received and ensuring payment of all accounts on a timely basis. Monthly financial statements are prepared for the Board for their review and approval. The Treasurer prepares the year-end Financial Statements of the Church that he presents to the Congregation at the Annual Meeting for their approval. He assists the Finance Committee in preparing the Annual Budget for the Board to be presented at the Annual Congregational Meeting. The Treasurer assists in preparing the Annual Statistical Information Report for the United Church of Canada and also prepares the Registered Charity Information Return for the Canada Revenue Agency.
When David is not “number-crunching” he likes to spend as much time as possible from the spring to fall at their cottage with family and friends. During the winter months, David and Fran help pass the time curling and skiing.
